It was early morning, and golden strands of sunlight were just starting to peek over the horizon. Slowly but surely, the crests of the majestic Cyprus hillside were poke through windows of buildings, and a cat lies content in one of the few sun spots that manage to get through. It was Annaliese and Matthew's wedding day, and I had arrived to the venue early to soak up the morning sun and catch a glimpse of the mirage of colors that mixed with the deep, clear blue of the sea. It was breathtaking – I had to stop and take it all in, snapping pictures on my camera faster than my senses can process. The exact location of the venue was Columbia Beach Resort in Pissouri, one of my very favorite spots in Cyprus. This Mediterranean island of love was lit up with activity mere hours later as guests began to arrive and attendants starting preparing for the wedding festivities. Annaliese and Matt were getting ready separately. I spent a bit of time with each of them, and the beauty of the love that I saw was overwhelming. Even apart, their hearts were still connected, both waiting with bated breath for the greatest moment of their lives. Nevertheless, there was a sense of calmness about both of them that was doubly evident as Annaliese walked down the aisle hours later. The afternoon sun formed around her like a halo, angelicly glowing around her. It was no surprise that tears began to run down Matthew's face as he watched her gracefully approached him. He had no words. As her father gave her away to her groom and set his eyes on his grown up daughter who once was a child, he smiled softly, gave her a brief hug, and let go of her hand. After the ceremony, there were cheers and speeches, namely by the groom himself. Matthew's speech was both romantic and funny. He didn't hold back his tears, but let them flow freely as he spoke of his lovely bride Annaliese. Matt is a man unafraid of showing emotion; it is something that draws others to him, and it has most certainly done so with Annaliese. The tears soon turned to rolling laughter as a few spicy details about the bride and groom had been told, causing Annaliese to blush, although she couldn't hide her smile. The night ended as most wedding nights do – with a dance party! The dinner, which was ripe with Mediterranean delicacies like souvlaki and sheftalia, flavours were still bursting in our stomachs as we shook a leg on the dance floor. The bride and groom shone bright amidst the crowd, owning the night that is theirs alone. I left feeling lighter, happier and beaming with the energy that made me once fall in love with that job of mine. ![]() Keep the smile shining,
Martina.
